R.O.C.K.'s Mission in Action

“The mission of R.O.C.K. is to nurture the healthy development of children by listening attentively to their needs and by providing opportunities to those who might not otherwise have access.”

When I talked to Derrick Connors, now 28 years old, about his experience in R.O.C.K.’s programs, it was if he had taken these words right off our website.  In Elementary school, Derrick participated in R.O.C.K.’s after school soccer program that took place at Visitaction Valley Elementary. He said he was made to feel included by R.O.C.K. staff who were always excited to see him at program and made him feel wanted by asking if he would be there the next day.

Google Serve
 

As San Francisco’s corporate climate continues to become more and more dominated by tech companies, the question of how they are giving back to the community is on many San Franciscan’s minds. We see CEOs like Marc Benioff of Salesforce in the news talking about how tech companies need to be better at giving back, but what are they really doing to address the major problems we face in San Francisco? That’s why R.O.C.K. was so pleased to participate in Google’s volunteer project, Google Serve.

Google Serve is a month long event that connects Google employees
with volunteer projects. Google sets up hundreds of volunteer projects in the bay area alone to facilitate their employees getting involved with helping the community. One class from both our elementary and middle school camps were able to visit Google offices...

Lil' Kid Camp

Attending Lil’ Kid Camp for the first time this year was truly inspirational. My pride to be working for an organization that provides such influential programming to the kids of Visitation Valley soared to great heights at camp. I felt so honored to be amongst Mountain Camp staff, R.O.C.K. staff, volunteers, and children that are making such shifts in our community for good.

Volleyball Skill Drills: Established in 1994, this thriving program is a fun, introductory sports program that focuses on one sport for six weeks. Each three-hour session leads boys and girls in first through fifth grade through non-competitive skill development exercises and team-building activities.
When: Saturdays starting October 1st (10/1-11/5) from 9:30am-12pm.
